We must support employment opportunities for Minnesota residents to earn a livable wage as a means to improve their quality of life. Too many of our community members are living under the threat of unemployment or underemployment. The underemployed are those individuals and families who work and earn less than a living wage. A living wage would allow families to cover their expenses and save for the future. Without it our community members are at risk of permanently entering the ranks of the working poor. I believe Minnesota can do better. We can find ways to grow more businesses in North Minneapolis, thereby creating more jobs, and we can create incentives to encourage other businesses to move to North Minneapolis in exchange for a guarantee that all their new hires will be residents of North Minneapolis. I believe we need public transportation that gets people to and from jobs that are out of the district. Accessible, affordable, and reliable public transportation is a must.
