Don't Be Fooled!

I am shocked and disappointed that my opponent, Willie Dominguez, has chosen to launch a last-minute smear campaign. And I apologize for having to leave one more piece at your door so close to primary election day.

In two campaign pieces -- so far, Willie purposefully provided misleading information to discredit my reputation and distort my position on foreclosures. He states that I represented a client who was charged with a crime involving more than 100 home foreclosures in the district. Mr. Dominguez failed to give you all the facts. My position on home foreclosure is more accurately and fairly represented by my record.
Because I believe in a person’s constitutional right to counsel, I agreed to represent a person charged with mortgage fraud at his first court appearance. But because I have seen the damage done by predatory lending and foreclosures throughout North Minneapolis, I withdrew my representation, and the client was represented by a different attorney in all other court appearances.  It is absurd for anyone to suggest that by representing this person in an initial court appearance, I condone or endorse the alleged conduct. I did not, do not, and will not condone this behavior.
Since 2005, I have conducted workshops throughout the district in collaboration with community organizations, designed to help residents pursue home ownership and defend themselves against predatory lending practices.  I also received the endorsement of ACORN, an organization known for its forward and progressive approach to preserving the housing rights of all residents.
I’m sorry that my opponent has decided that he needs to distort and misrepresent the facts. It’s dishonest, and it’s unethical. Who knows what else you’ll be subjected to before the polls open on Tuesday. Attacks on me personally? Attacks on my family?
Please reject the politics of distortion. Vote for the hopes and dreams you have for yourself, your family, and our community. Vote Bobby Joe Champion on Tuesday, September 9th !

Excelsior - "The Promise"By Peggy Oliver

Virtual Sounds - In a gospel world dictated by mass choirs, identity could get lost in the shuffle. But for a Minneapolis-based unit with over two decades behind them, Excelsior 's high energy, musical diversity eventually obtained nationwide exposure via Verity Records with God@Work and Soul Interpretations . The Promise begins another chapter; into the independent recording ranks.

The backbone of Excelsior holds the reins from group co-founder and director Bobby Champion , to co-lead vocalist David Hurst. They share terrific company with renowned Minneapolis-area gospelteers including The Sounds of Blackness and James Grear & Company . The 2002 Stellar Awards New Artist of the Year and 2003 Grammy Award nominees constantly tour, participated at Gospel Workshop of America (GWMA), and joined forces with Prince on a 19 99 pay-per-view special.

EXCELSIOR WOWS FINELINE! Nobody knew it’d be like this! Excelsior is set to release their latest project, In His Hands, in stores tomorrow, however, they gave Twin Citians a preview last night at the Fineline. And what a preview it turned out to be. It should have simply been billed as a concert instead of a listening party. The 30-member group, led by Bobby Champion, along with a full backup of musicians filled the Fineline stage and took control of the audience from beginning to end. In an interview on Z1470 Totally Gospel radio, Champion told me the group would perhaps do a number or two. Some half a dozen songs later, Excelsior had the packed house standing, shouting and waving thier hands. In His Hands is the seventh CD for Excelsior and is being produced on their own record label. I ran into Gary Hines, Sounds of Blackness founder, last night, who says he’d heard the CD master in the studio which he deems an incredible work. There were a number of special guests in the house including congressional candidate, Keith Ellison; Stairstep Founder, Alfred Babington-Johnson; Event Organizer, Hattie Webb; General Mills Executive, Celois Steele; and a number of Z 1470 Totally Gospel volunteers and employees. The event was punctuated by a host of singers, a gospel comedian and was emceed by Television Personality, Angela Davis. In His Hands lands on stores shelves tomorrow.
