Thank you for being there for me, you stood in line for many hours on election day to make sure your voice was heard. You have given me an opportunity and a responsibility that comes to few people. I thank each and every one of you who played a role in this victory. I'm committed to doing all I can to find solutions to the challenges we face. I will do my best, and together we will restore our community to good standing.
Thanks to you, not only did we win at the polls, we turned a political campaign into a movement for change. We did it against the odds, the old fashioned way, by hard work and determination, one person at a time, and one neighborhood at a time. This victory belongs to you who believe that we can do so much better and hope for so much more in our neighborhood.
Voters said 'no' to division and exclusion, and 'yes' to the politics of hope and possibility. We need the best ideas and the best people from all comers to help turn our state around. I don't have all the answers, but I will give you the best that I have and the best that I am. The real change comes when every man, woman and child in our community has a reason to hope.
Our campaign has been an incredible journey; it's time to put politics aside, join together and get the job done for our future. The message Obama is sending us is: work together, meet our challenges, put aside the politics of division and build our community, together. I am ready to meet the challenges, are you ready? When we set aside our differences and build on our shared values of faith and family and work we win. I invite all political parties to join me in this journey.
I have been deeply touched by the incredible dedication and sacrifice of those people working on my campaign. I was fortunate enough to have one of the best team in politics; my loyal and supportive first lady Angela Champion, campaign chairperson Helen Williams who worked tirelessly on my behalf. And my volunteers, Trayshana Thomas, Juanita Lewis, Elizabeth Samuels, Elizabeth Campbell, Linda Griffin, Bertha Baker, Earnestine Brailsfield, Makeda Gillisepe, Joel Taylor and Roderic Neal for you all your work with the lit.
